The release notes give you brief, high-level descriptions of new Salesforce features and enhancements to existing features. You also get setup information, implementation tips to help you get started, and best practices to ensure your continued success. - How and When Do Features Become Available?
Some features in Winter ’16 affect all users immediately after the release goes live. You may want to communicate these changes to your users beforehand so they are prepared. Now you can share Wave visualizations in Communities and Lightning, clone lenses, and create open-ended date filters. Custom menus and more detailed lists give you quicker access to your Wave assets. On the back end, our new replication service lets your dataflow run faster; you’ll enjoy powerful new SAQL options; and you can control Wave dashboards via the REST API. - Reports and Dashboards: Let Data Drive Your Actions
Make informed decisions using Reports and Dashboards. Lightning Experience brings a heap of enhancements. Animated, interactive charts illustrate data. A robust new report run page is easier to read and filter. And a new dashboard editor supports more than three columns and features components that span multiple columns and rows. - Service: Enhanced Design for Agents, More Automation for Administrators
Help your support team deliver incredible service faster. A redesigned service console lets your team spot customer data in a flash. Agents can also attach files more quickly to cases and better monitor times on service agreements. Agents using web chat can raise a virtual flag to get help from supervisors, and administrators can block sensitive data from chats in real time. Administrators can also approve social media posts before they go public and suspend a data sync connection between Salesforce organizations while deploying changes. - Mobile: Do More On the Go
Things keep getting better for sales reps on the go. The Salesforce1 mobile app gets a bit of a facelift, with an easier-to-read font, labels in the action bar to identify what each action is, and infinite scrolling on feeds and record pages. And new Notes and Files related lists make it a snap to stay up on business-critical resources. For the Service Cloud, empower your agents to provide personalized service to mobile customers with the SOS video chat and screen-sharing solution, now available for Android and iOS apps. - Communities: Lightning Upgrade, Extensible Templates, Insights, Moderation Rules, and Much More
Winter ’16 is packed with changes that make templates more customizable. You can show more Salesforce data, create and use custom Lightning components, and support multiple languages. Plus, you can now create moderation criteria and act on community reports directly from Community Management. These features are available in Salesforce Classic only. Communities is not supported in Lightning Experience. - Chatter: Rich Text Posts, More Relevant Mentions, Mute Posts
Format your posts with rich text, see more relevant suggestions when mentioning people and groups, and mute feed posts. There are also several improvements to files, user profiles, and groups. - Search: Finding Information
Salesforce search gives you the power to find information faster. You control which custom objects are stored in the search index. We also made several improvements to how we handle punctuation in your searches. You get more relevant results with less guessing with expanded search term and nickname search results. In addition, search in Lightning Experienceoffers users enhanced instant results and a redesigned search results page. - Data.com: Company Hierarchies, New SIC8 and Firmographic Data, Geocode Opt Out, and More
Data.com accounts now come loaded with even more valuable financial and industry details, so your sales team can get a complete picture of potential customers. There are new visual representations of company hierarchies that help your sales reps identify new prospects for cross-sell opportunities. In addition, we’ve beefed up the Data.com API. Lightning Experience simplifies setup and gives you better ways to manage your data. Your processes and flows are less likely to hit SOQL limits. It\’s easier to build flow choice fields and processes that update records, and the email you get when flows fail now has a lot more detail. - Security and Identity
Protect your Salesforce organization and your users with a new, more intuitive login experience and more secure login handling. In Lightning Experience, get to Salesforce apps, custom apps, and connected apps from one App Launcher view. Transaction Security policies let you respond quickly to specified security situations. You can encrypt more fields, and you can store larger OAuth tokens and password fields. - Deployment
You now have new ways to deploy changes to your organization. Deployment changes include test options for change sets. Sandbox enhancements include sandbox auto-activation, improved data security, and a new sandbox copy engine. - Development: Create Your Own Salesforce App
